FWA Annual General Meeting 2024

NOTICE OF FWA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING (AGM) 2024

Floorball WA will be holding its AGM at the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) (246 Vincent St, Leederville) on Sunday 24th November 2024 at 6pm. Per the Constitution of Floorball WA, all committee positions are declared vacant at the AGM and members are invited to submit a nomination for membership of the Committee.

Nominations can be made by submitting the Nomination Form, available on the Floorball WA website in the ‘Downloads’ section, to secretary@floorballwa.org by 11PM AWST on 26th October 2024.[1] Floorball WA is committed to gender equity in its governance processes and nominations are particularly requested from female members.

If you have any queries, including about membership status, please contact Kim Christie at secretary@floorballwa.org.

Notes for applicants: nominations that do not comply with sections 27 and 32 of the Constitution cannot be accepted by the Secretary. Please be advised, per the Constitution:

      • nominations can only be received by ordinary members of the Association aged 18 years or older;
      • a nomination requires a statement of support by another ordinary member of the Association; and
      • nominations cannot be accepted after the date stated in this notice.

REMINDER THAT ALL FWA MEMBERS ARE INVITED TO JOIN THE FWA COMMITTEE
A reminder that all members of FWA are invited to join the Floorball WA Committee.

Q: Do I need to know about governance, strategy, risk management and all that boring stuff?
A: No! For the most part, this is managed by the GRCF (Governance, Risk, Compliance and Finance) Subcommittee. If you’re interested in having a say and helping with the competitions that Floorball WA runs (like Summer League), you can be on the Operations Subcommittee, and if you want to grow the sport, support referee and high-performance pathway development, and promote social floorball, the Development Subcommittee is the place for you.

Q: But what if I love the boring stuff?
A: GRCF is a safe space for people willing to admit they enjoy policy development and/or balance sheets!

Q: Do I need to have board/committee experience?
A: No, not at all. In fact, FWA requires a diverse range of people, from those with specific areas of expertise to those with simply an interest in learning a little more and helping out. Each new committee member will receive an induction and training in how to be an effective committee member. FWA is also supported by a Governance, Risk and Compliance Consultant so you’ll be in good hands.

Q: You mentioned specific areas of expertise – anything in particular?
A: In addition to general board/committee experience, we’re always looking for people with specific skills or experience in areas of finance, health and safety, law, governance, risk management, high-performance sport, community sport development, and refereeing/officiating.

Q: And diversity?
A: Floorball WA has a current focus on increasing women’s participation in FWA governance and particularly seeks female applicants for FWA Committee. FWA also aims to have diversity in all areas of governance, and measures and reports on areas of board diversity such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, LGBTIQ, cultural and linguistic diversity, age diversity, and geographic diversity (north of the river, south of the river, and regional).

Q: Where are the meetings held?
A: Given the wide geographic distribution of committee members, and in order to encourage regional representation and minimise time commitments for members, most meetings are held via MS Teams.

Q: Are there specific roles or functions on the committee? Can I apply for these?
A: There are specific roles and functions, which are elected by the committee that is elected at the AGM. There are four specific roles (or ‘offices’): President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. There’s a breakdown of each in the FWA Committee Handbook (https://floorballwa.org/downloads/), but in short:

      • The President is responsible for leadership of the committee and for the efficient organisation and conduct of FWA Committee’s functioning.
      • The Vice-President assumes the responsibilities of the President when the President is not present.
      • The Secretary is responsible for the effective management of the committee’s business and maintenance of key records.
      • The Treasurer is responsible for the financial operations of the committee.

If you want to know more, check out the FWA Committee Handbook (https://floorballwa.org/downloads/) or email Kim Christie at secretary@floorballwa.org.

If you’re interested in joining the FWA Committee, please put your nomination in now, as nominations close at 11pm AWST on 26/10/2024. The nomination form can be found at https://floorballwa.org/downloads/.
